We are Scientists
Year 7 student Xander Moore took part in a journalism challenge during Local Newspaper Week. Students were asked to write about an element of school life, to include a quote from another student or a teacher.
Here is his article, which was published in the Swindon Advertiser.
Today, I'm going to be talking about Nova Hreod's group of amazing scientists: THE SCIENCE CLUB.
The science club contains a group of interested students who want to do extra science. Last time in science club we were doing a replica of CSI, and my favourite one was the time we mixed chemicals to create rainbows.
Science club takes place every Tuesday after school, and is held by a different science teacher each week. My 3 favourite teachers are Miss Wong, Miss Dominy and Dr Clapp, although the other teachers are just as good.
I have interviewed a student who attends science club, and asked them what is their opinion. This is what they had to say. (Awa Jagne 12/5/17)
"I think that it is a great opportunity to expand on a child's knowledge, as you learn things which don’t come up on the curriculum, and it helps build up character. My favourite activity was when we made lava lamps using oil, water and aspirin."
Next we talked to one of the teachers (Miss Dominy 12/5/17)
"I love science club because it means that we can do crazy practicals that I normally can't do. I love doing the extra work because it's fun to prepare the practicals.
The benefits are massive like you learn extra things (like the CSI investigation).”
