Top marks for Finlay in national maths challenge
The UKMT Intermediate Maths Challenge is a national competition filled with extremely complex maths problems to solve. It encourages mathematical reasoning, precision of thought, and fluency in using basic mathematical techniques to solve interesting problems. Being selected for this competition is a real achievement as only 20 students from the whole of Years 9 and 10 were invited to participate due to their maths skills. Many of the students managed to achieve either a Bronze, Silver, or even Gold certificate.
Special congratulations must go to Year 9 Finlay, who achieved a gold certificate and went on to compete in the UKMT Grey Kangaroo maths challenge against students across the country. Finlay achieved an exceptionally high score which lead him to receive a “Merit”, which is the highest award in this challenge.
Reaching the Grey Kangaroo stage is a huge achievement as it's only completed by the top performing students from the main challenge, so it really is an elite competition only for the top performing maths scholars. A huge well done to Finlay for his achievement, and to all the students who qualified to enter this prestigious competition.
