Team Nova!
Celebrating a great term of football
Under 16 girls
A HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to the girls’ football team who have won their league and picked up a lovely trophy which will take pride of place in the academy display cabinet…WELL DONE LADIES!!!
After a hard fought season our girls vanquished all opposition and come out on top to win the Swindon School's League for the first time.
Year 8 Boys
The Year 8 boys travelled to Bournemouth for the second year, to take part in the United Learning South of England Football Tournament.
The football was exquisite and the pick of the results was a 10 - 0 win over Bournemouth Collegiate. The Nova team won the semi-final with some fantastic football.
Unfortunately, the final proved a step too far and although our boys outplayed the Shoreham side creating 10 clear chances and striking the woodwork 4 times, we could simply not find the back of the net. Shoreham had one clear chance and they took it, resulting in a 1-0 defeat for the Nova boys.
A huge congratulations to our Year 8 team, not only for their achievement but also their attitude, teamwork, sportsmanship and for being exemplary ambassadors for the school.
Year 9 boys
Our team of Year 9 footballers have been competing against other Swindon schools in the Swindon Schools’ Cup. After a super season, the team from Nova Hreod beat off the competition to reach the semi-final.
This was the most exhilarating game of football seen at school level for a long time. Not only was it a high standard of football, as our boys took on the National Cup finalists (a side littered with talent that have been signed by professional clubs), but the spirit in which the game was played made this stand out.
Nova led 1-0 until the final five minutes when Lydiard Park Academy equalised and then took a shock lead. Not to be deterred, our team had a reshuffle for the final 2 minutes and then scored an equaliser with 30 seconds to play. In extra time our team held their shape and showed incredible discipline as they had done all game, but a moment of brilliance put LPA 3-2 in front. Again Team Nova showed great resilience and fought back to equalise with the last kick of extra time.
The game went to penalties and the two sides stood together on the half way line in a display of genuine sportsmanship that made their teachers proud to be part of the occasion. LPA won 5-4 on penalties to go through but (and by the admission of their teacher) it was a lucky win for LPA and very unlucky for Nova to lose.
The character showed by the Nova team was exceptional and they were ambassadors of the highest order for themselves, school sport and as Nova Hreod students.
Year 7 boys
Our next challenge is for the Year 7 team who will face Ridgeway away in the quarter-finals of the cup... who knows, Nova could be appearing in its THIRD semi-final of the footballing season and it is only a matter of time before more silverware appears in our display cabinets!
