Taking a moment for MIND
Before the latest lockdown, staff and students at Nova joined together to take a moment with their eyes closed and create a photographic exhibition to raise the profile of mental health and wellbeing in support of the mental health charity, MIND.
The inspiration for the exhibition is the photographer Ray Burmiston, who, for the last 10 years, has been asking famous subjects to pause during their shoot, close their eyes and take a moment. Curating over 250 of these moments, Ray has created a dynamic online gallery at www.takeamoment.uk/ filled with familiar faces, recognizing that we need to come together as a collective to take a moment right now. Everyone can take part in Ray's gallery by uploading an "eyes closed" selfie and donating £3 to MIND.
The coronavirus pandemic is having a huge impact on our mental health. Every year, one in four of us will experience a mental health problem. MIND provides advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem and campaign to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding.
The exhibition is now in place in school, creating a powerful reminder that "We're all in this together".
