Stepping Stones

Year 8 learn about higher education

Barbara Freeman / Categories: News

On 16th and 17th April, we welcomed Oxford Brookes University to the Academy to work with Year 8s as part of the Stepping Stones university awareness course.

Hannah Rose-Ford came along with six OBU Ambassadors, who each worked with a small group of our Year 8s. Students took part in sessions on: ‘breaking down barriers to learning,’ ‘identifying personal strengths,’ ‘the benefits of going to university’ and ‘demystifying myths and misconceptions about university.’

Each of the sessions lasted an hour and were very engaging. The students took an active part in the work and the Ambassadors from Oxford Brookes were very complimentary about the Academy. Many of the Year 8 students left the sessions saying that they felt a future university course is now a realistic option for them.
