Nova Hreod students win final of national App competition
Youngsters introduced to coding
Students from Nova Hreod Academy won the final of #UnitedApp2015 – an entrepreneurial app-design competition between 700 young people from United Learning schools across the country.
Shaina Akthar, Charlotte King and Aimee Robinson in year 9 came up with an idea for an app that helps parents to help their children with school work. The girls travelled to Xero HQ in Milton Keynes to present their idea to a panel of judges. The app impressed the judges at the final and will now be built by the students and be live in the AppStore next year.
United Learning partnered with ideas company 7billionideas and was sponsored by Xero to create the contest, which promotes entrepreneurial spirit, innovation and team work whilst introducing students to the world of coding.
#UnitedApp2015 kicked off in October 2014 and, throughout November, students developed their ideas for educational apps that could make a national or global impact. 181 teams, known as “think tanks,” were formed for students to work together on their apps. 700 students entered the competition, there were 10 finalists and Nova Hreod Academy won first place.
