Nova Hreod students reach final of national App competition
Youngsters introduced to coding
Students from Nova Hreod Academy have made it through to the final of #UnitedApp2015 – an entrepreneurial app-design competition between 700 young people from United Learning schools across the country.
If their idea for an app that helps parents to help their children impresses judges at the final, it will be built by the students and be live in the AppStore next year.
United Learning partnered with ideas company 7billionideas to create the contest, which promotes entrepreneurial spirit, innovation and team work whilst introducing students to the world of coding.
#UnitedApp2015 kicked off in October 2014 and, throughout November, students developed their ideas for educational apps that could make a national or global impact. 181 teams, known as think tanks, were formed for students to work together on their apps.
Think tank ‘Russell’ consisted of Shaina Aktar, Charlotte King and Aimee Robinson. It was one of 10 chosen to represent their school at the finals which will now take place at the headquarters of accountancy software company Xero, who have sponsored this year’s competition.
Mr Barton, Principal of Nova Hreod Academy said:
“We are delighted that our team has been shortlisted for the final of this national competition. They are very excited to have the chance to showcase their technology skills which we try and nurture across our school curriculum.”
David Harkin (CEO) from 7billionideas said:
“This is a fantastic achievement for Nova Hreod’s students and a great recognition of their innovative minds and super team work. We look forward to seeing them at the finals.”
