Meet our new SENDCO

Barbara Freeman / Categories: News

We are delighted to announce that Ben Wilkinson has accepted the position of SENDCO.

Mr Wilkinson joined Nova Hreod Academy as PE Coordinator at the start of 2016, having previously taught Sport & PE at North Oxfordshire Academy. He is well-liked and respected by his colleagues and students and is always willing to help out or support colleagues, even supporting backstage with our recent performance of “Bugsy Malone”. He is a keen sportsman, playing rugby for Devizes RUFC and enjoys snowboarding and golf when he is not at school. He has two dogs, Betty and Daisy.

He said: “I am excited about taking on this new role and responsibilities. Having pursued a teaching career to make a difference, this role provides me with the opportunity to impact positively on students’ lives. I am grateful to Ms Fidan and the SEND team for their help with my transition into the role.”

Mr Barton says: “Since joining Nova Mr Wilkinson has provided our students with a plethora of avenues in which to explore the sports’ industry; sourcing and opening up opportunities for them to work with both international and local sportsmen and women. He works tirelessly at creating a culture that embraces all, finding ways to involve and inspire all learners regardless of their capabilities. He is generous with his time, providing support and opportunities outside of lesson times for students to access sport as a means of relaxation; this has proven particularly helpful with some of our most vulnerable students.

“I am delighted that he has taken up the position of SENDCO and I am sure that his can-do attitude, his tenacity and his personality will go a long way to supporting the needs of our most vulnerable learners.”

Mr Wilkinson will continue teaching PE and will be working alongside Ms Fidan to ensure a smooth transition for our SEND students.
