Iain Perkins

Head of PE (1975-2011)

We were devastated to hear of the sudden loss of Iain Perkins this week. Many of our former students will have fond memories of “Perky.” After attending St. Paul’s College, Cheltenham, we were privileged that he came to us for his first teaching post at Hreod Burna, where he stayed for more than 35 years.

Iain was dedicated to sport and as well as being Head of PE at Burna, Parkway and Nova Hreod, he gave up a lot of his own time to organise sporting activities and events such as the Swindon Cross Country Championship, which he ran for over 35 years. A keen rugby player, he took 300 students to Twickenham every year for the Varsity rugby match. In 2012, Iain was nominated by his colleagues to carry the Olympic Torch for his long service and contribution to sport, which he carried proudly through the streets of Marlborough.

Iain was a true gentleman and an inspirational teacher who lived life to the full and inspired others to do the same. He will be sorely missed by his colleagues and former students here, and our condolences go out to his family.
