Health & Social Care students support Senior School Games
This week, our Health & Social Care students showcased their exceptional ability to provide warm and caring support to 20 elderly individuals from five different care homes, as we hosted the second annual Senior Games at Nova Hreod Academy
Our students’ efforts were nothing short of amazing. From the very beginning, it was clear that they were dedicated to creating a positive and engaging atmosphere for the residents. They interacted thoughtfully with everyone showing care and consideration, they were patient and enthusiastic. They ensured that no one was left out. The students' willingness to listen and engage in conversation was remarkable, as they genuinely took the time to get to know the residents.
One of the standout moments of the visit was when the pupils participated in a dancing warm up activity, it was heartwarming and lovely to see all students encouraging the residents. The students, with their energy and enthusiasm, got the residents involved, creating a joyful environment. It was evident how much the residents enjoyed this interaction, as they smiled and laughed, clearly appreciating the experience.
The leadership demonstrated by the students was impressive. Each group of students took responsibility for their designated station, ensuring everything ran smoothly and everyone felt included. They communicated effectively with one another, modelled and made each resident feel comfortable and welcome.
Equally important was the manner in which the students supported each resident. Their care was evident in the way they patiently helped with activities, offered gentle encouragement, and ensured that each person felt valued and respected. The residents clearly responded to this warmth, and it was heartwarming to see such genuine connections being made.
The staff members at the care homes were exceptionally complimentary of the students’ efforts, making a point of how they had created such a positive atmosphere and contributed to the residents’ well-being. Their feedback highlighted the students' respectful and compassionate approach, which made a significant impact on the day’s success.
Mr Wilkinson said:
It was great to see students really embrace the opportunity and step out of their comfort zone. They were all exceptional. They not only did themselves really proud, but they were outstanding ambassadors for the school.
The staff from each of the care homes as well as those from the Swindon and Wiltshire Schools' Partnerships, who organised the event, were really positive about the students and how well they conducted themselves.
In conclusion, the visit was a resounding success, and our pupils proved themselves to be excellent ambassadors of kindness, empathy, and leadership. The residents were left feeling uplifted, and the positive interactions between the students and the elderly were truly lovely to see.
