Election Day

Students use their vote to elect new student council

Barbara Freeman / Categories: News

As the country voted in the General Election on 7th May, the students at Nova Hreod Academy also discovered what it is like to take part in an election. In the weeks preceding the election, students had voted in their tutor groups for the students they would like to represent them on the student council. On Election day all of the ‘Tutor Reps’ were given the opportunity to run for the position of ‘Year Rep’ and to represent their year group in whole school council meetings.

The students all went to a year group specific polling station. Upon arrival at the polling station students were given a ballot slip and chose one girl and one boy to represent their year group. The students then posted their vote into a ballot box just like in a real election. Votes were then counted and verified and the winning candidates were announced at the end of the day.

All the candidates did really well and will all take an active part in the student council concentrating on a variety of activities in the Nova Hreod community.
