Education Minister Lord Nash congratulates Nova on GCSE success
Minister visits Nova Hreod for "Race to Outstanding" seminar for South West Schools
Education Minister Lord Nash today visited Nova Hreod Academy to congratulate students and staff on their recent GCSE success and to speak at a seminar hosted by Sir David Carter, Regional Schools Commissioner for the South West, for schools on the drive to become Outstanding.
The Minister toured the school meeting students and staff all of whom are buoyed by the dramatic jump in the school’s results this summer which doubled from 31% to 60% making Nova Hreod one of the most improved schools in the South West.
Lord Nash was greeted by our Student Council and taken into the atrium where our CCF Cadets demonstrated drill techniques, before he was served with a selection of delicious canapés prepared by Catering students.
Later in the day, Lord Nash spoke at a meeting of schools brought together by Sir David to encourage them to join Nova Hreod in their mission to become Outstanding.
Lord Nash said:
“It’s been a real pleasure to visit Nova Hreod today. I’ve been hugely impressed by what I’ve seen – pupils are smart and well behaved, Darren Barton and Ben Parnell are exceptional leaders and the whole school should be rightly proud of its achievements”.
Darren Barton, Principal of Nova Hreod Academy said:
“It was a great privilege to welcome Lord Nash here so that he could see for himself the progress we have been making over the past year. It is very rewarding for us all to feel that what we have achieved is recognised at a national level and his words of encouragement chime well with our vision as a United Learning academy to bring out the best in everyone.
“We were particularly pleased that he took time to talk to students about his background and success in business and public service. We are always delighted when our students have the chance to meet individuals who inspire them to make the most of their lives”.
