Duke of Edinburgh Success
Congratulations to 10N1’s Patrick, Samuel, Georgia, Isobel, Millie, Sarah, Izzy and Ellie; Molly (10N3), Eloise (10N4) and Jake (10N5) who received their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Awards, Gabriella (11MA2), who was presented with her Bronze and Silver awards and Cerys (SCIENCE1), Jack (ENGLIT), who were presented with their Silver Award in a recent celebration assembly.
The students worked hard on the three elements of the DofE Award by demonstrating skills, a physical activity and a volunteering role over a sustained period of time, and also enjoyed a gruelling expedition across the Marlborough Downs where they had to navigate and set up an overnight camp.
They are rightly very proud of their volunteering roles, which include football coaching, helping out at church, supporting a disability netball club and being a Brownies leader. Molly’s horse Alfred played a part in her physical component and Izzy has gone up two levels in swimming since starting the scheme. All the students agree that the DofE has helped them develop independence and learn new skills such as map reading and how to put up a tent.
Their advice to anyone thinking about the scheme is unanimously "Do it! It’s great fun!"
