Discovery Day at Birmingham University
Interactive visits help to raise aspirations
Two groups of Year 10 students were given an opportunity to visit the University of Birmingham to attend a Discovery Day based on subjects they are potentially interested in following at higher education.
On Wednesday 17th June, the visit focused on the subjects of Law, Arts and Social Science. We were introduced to different courses available to study, with lots of information about university in general. The group then took part in a workshop before being given a tour of the campus, where we learnt some amusing facts including some of the superstitions from around the campus. This was followed by a second workshop and a highly engaging lecture on the philosophy of law. Our students took an active part throughout the day and engaged extremely well in the lecture.
The following day, we returned with a different group of students interested in Medical Sciences. Our day at the Medical School started with talks from current students about their experiences of studying medicine at the University of Birmingham. Again, our students engaged fully in the interactive workshops that they thoroughly enjoyed and after lunch we joined in an interactive lecture about the functionality of the lungs.
Both days were very interesting and all the students who attended enjoyed the experience.
