Nova dancer wins World Cup medal

Barbara Freeman / Categories: News

Nova Hreod’s Amy Baker and 47 other children from the Swindon Academy of Dance travelled with their families to Bucharest in Romania to compete in the Dance World Cup. The group was selected from over 18,000 dancers from 38 countries who auditioned to participate in this year's World Cup.

There was an Olympic style opening ceremony, with flag bearers and all competitors parading through a central park in Bucharest to the Sala Polivalentia Stadium.

The Competition is split into two halves (6-12 and 13-24 years of age) and each age group had half the week to compete.

Amy's Ballet Group, all aged between 7-12 years old - came 4th out of 13 in their category, missing out on a bronze medal by just two points. Her Tap Group, aged between 10-12 - won Gold in their category, beating various groups from Romania, Germany, Italy, Spain, Austria and other groups from England.

Amy is pictured here arriving at Bucharest Airport with the team, performing with her Tap group, and holding her Gold medal.
