Members of the student council visited Arval UK to officially launch Nova’s new partnership with the car leasing firm.

The partnership has been developed through an initiative from Business in the Community, a charity that works to engage businesses to create economically viable, cohesive communities by supporting young people in schools.

As part of the partnership, a team of ambassadors from Arval will provide coaching for staff, support the careers programme at the academy by offering mentoring and work experience, and work with students on projects. Last week, a team from Arval helped out with a mock interview day for Year 10 students to help develop their confidence and interview techniques for their forthcoming college and job applications.

Arval UK, part of the Arval Group, is a leader in the provision of vehicle funding and fleet management solutions. Owned by BNP Paribas, with substantial buying power, they have 40 years of industry experience and fund more than 160,000 cars and vans. Focused on service quality, Arval UK is a people-lead company, with specialist teams dedicated to businesses from start-ups to FTSE 100 companies. Arval continues to invest significantly in technology to improve fleet efficiency and has a comprehensive range of products and services covering funding solutions including contract hire, vehicle maintenance, fuel management, accident management, breakdown recovery, short and medium term hire, insured lease vehicles, full outsourcing and consultancy services.

Julia Aniola (9N4), who went to Arval’s offices, said: “I especially enjoyed the tour of Arval, seeing the restaurant, gym and IT rooms as well as how everything works there. I thought that the environment and the atmosphere at Arval were both lovely and welcoming. We talked about how Arval and Nova can work together in order to raise money for charities and create a garden next to our school. I really enjoyed how everyone at Arval was excited and had plenty of ideas about how to interact with both the school and the student council.

Katie-May Hall (9N2) said: “we learned a lot about Arval and what it stands for as a company. It was very informative and gave us a good understanding of how the company will be working with the school.

Speaking for Nova Hreod, Principal Darren Barton said: "We are delighted to have the support of Arval, who are a significant employer in our local community, and we’re looking forward to working with them to benefit our students. Our aim is to develop further the employability skills of our young people and the relationship will help the personal development, industry knowledge and employment opportunities of a large number of our students.

Ailsa Firth, HR Director at Arval said: "This partnership is a great opportunity for Arval and our employees who will be able to work closely with the students to build their skills and knowledge to help support them with practical employment skills for their future. As well as educating them on our organisation, we will cover areas like alternative vehicle technologies which links closely to science and technology subjects. Many of our employees have an affinity with the school and have children who are students there, so we really connect with the history of the school and its future aspirations.”
