A Valentine’s Day to remember
Nova student chosen to unveil new rugby kit at Twickenham
Year 9 student Remi Wrona will have a Valentine’s Day to remember this year as she will be appearing on the pitch before kick-off at the RBS 6 Nations England v Italy match at Twickenham on 14th February.
Remi has been chosen to represent Nova Hreod at Twickenham as part of the All Schools programme, an England Rugby initiative to get more state secondary schools playing rugby. She will be wearing a rugby shirt especially designed by a group of students from the Academy at a Kit Design workshop held last year, organised by Canterbury, the official sportswear supplier for the Rugby World Cup.
Remi attended a workshop at Wheatley RFC where students enjoyed an interactive session on the history of the rugby shirt and the practicalities of design, before being given free rein to create a shirt for their school team.
The only stipulation of the workshop was that the design had to be the students’ choice; no teachers were allowed to influence it. At the end of the workshop the final design was signed off by the school and handed over to Canterbury for production.
Canterbury has now produced a set of team shirts for each of the 100 schools involved and the final results will be seen at Twickenham on Saturday 14th February when Remi will join 99 other students on the pitch each wearing their school’s own unique design.
