Within United Learning, local governors contribute to the overall governance of the multi-academy trust (MAT) at an individual school level. They are the eyes and ears of the trust on the ground, the critical friends of each school. They bring their skills and expertise to help a school achieve its aims by offering critique and support in equal measure.
Their different and diverse perspectives and experiences help leaders to reflect, see things more clearly, spot new ways of looking at a situation and make better decisions - to the ultimate good the school is trying to achieve, of educated, successful children passing with joy and confidence to the next stage of their life.
This is a challenging and deeply rewarding role where individuals can make a real difference to a school within its community. In carrying it out, our local governors provide immense value to their schools and to United Learning as a whole.
Nova Hreod Academy is part of the United Learning Multi-Academy Trust, whose Trustees hold the ultimate legal responsibility for the governance of each United Learning school.
Further information about the governance of United Learning, including its Trustees, can be found at http://unitedlearning.org.uk/about-us/governance
The Trustees of United Learning delegate certain responsibilities to a Local Governing Body (LGB) for each school. The main purpose of the LGB is to provide support and challenge to the Academy on behalf of United Learning, drawing on local knowledge of the school and the communities it serves.
Information about which responsibilities are retained by Trustees and which are delegated to the LGB are described in the scheme of delegation.

The LGB meets five times a year and acts as a critical friend to the leadership teams at Swindon Academy and Nova Hreod. It is the governors’ job to ask difficult questions, examine attainment and learning outcomes, and offer constructive challenge to help ensure that all pupils receive an excellent education and are able to succeed in life. Governors also support the behaviour for learning policy (taking part in hearings and appeals for exclusions), helping with the recruitment of senior roles, and hearing escalated complaints.
All governors are volunteers and largely drawn from the local community in and around Swindon.
Membership of the LGB:
Mr Kevin Logan (Chair)
Mr James Scragg (Deputy Chair)
Mr Simon Halls
Mr Phil Johnson
Mr Matt Lodge
Ms Caroline Kafka-Markey
