Aircraft tour at Brize Norton
RAF welcomes Nova to Air Tanker
14 students from Year 9 had the opportunity to visit Air Tanker at RAF Brize Norton, as they begin to consider their GCSE options.
The visit began in a briefing room where Flt Sgt Kev Murphy gave a presentation on the role of the RAF and the career opportunities available. Flt Sgt Murphy talked about the different aircraft that the RAF operate such as the Typhoon, A400M, C17 transport plane and the Voyager.
The students enjoyed a tour around the Voyager where they had the opportunity to look on board the aeroplane, sit on the flight deck and have a question and answer session with Flt Sgt Murphy and an aircraft dispatcher. The Voyager has a dual role as an air-to-air tanker and transport aircraft. It can carry almost 300 troops over 6,000 miles and can refuel aircraft such as Typhoons and Tornados mid-air. They also had the opportunity to look on board a static aircraft which was in the hangar for a refit.
The students thoroughly enjoyed their visit and would have liked to have stayed all day.
Comments from Year 9 students:
